Catalog wiping

To be researched: Does anyone remember particularly notable wipes on the sharty? Please compile them on the page and add documentation if possible. Can (You) help us?
Catalog wiping, also known as a catty wiping, is when enough new threads are created on a board of an imageboard to completely replace all old ones, rendering the latter of which deleted and therefore unusable. Its namesake is the catalog viewer, which allows you to view all currently active threads at a glance. Catalog wipes used to be more common on the sharty, particularly /soy/, before hourly thread limits were added. In addition to the fact that one IP can only make a thread roughly every minute or so, this makes catty wiping even while utilizing a botnet very difficult. On /nate/, catalog wiping is welcomed with open arms and is not a punishable offense there. Catalog wiping is detrimental to websites like the sharty, but moreso to deader imageboard websites such as the 'fe. Some imageboards may utilize a rollback system to undo catty wiping, such as 4cuck, but this is not always the case.
Examples[edit | edit source]
On [s4s][edit | edit source]
A regular occurrence in the original 2013 days of the board, with various participants such as "Gippo Dudee" attempting a board takeover, blimps and even one of the earliest catty wipes of /po/.

On kwah[edit | edit source]
Spamming on /qa/ was common, alongside catty wipes. However, a notable one was when a /vt/humor did it. I think it was with an image of Gar gurwa or whatever the pedophile shark one is.
On the Sharty[edit | edit source]
On the sharty, notable examples of catty wiping would be the Kara boga spammers from 2020-2022, the giga 'catty wipe, the pepe 'catty wipes, and the wojak catty wipe. There was also a recent example in 2024 of spadeson wiping the 'log because a soygem pass user plugged the pass cookie into a bot. Quote needs to figure out how 4cuck avoids this.

Types of cattywipes[edit | edit source]
- Neutralplier spam and similar blogposts until they were banned by Froot
- Muttjaks
- Baby bot spam (This was especially common during late Doll era)
- In the months preceding the soypocalypse there were unironic 'p wipes done on the site[1]
- Numberjacks on /nate/ (where it belongs)
